Uca (Minuca) burgersi Holthuis, 1967 was studied in the laboratory under the morphological and systematical stand points. One experiment was carried out involving 100 larvae, derived from one ovigerous female collected in the north coast of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. The experiment were carried out in a climatically controlled room at 25±1ºC and steady saltness of 34 The larvae were maintened individually and food consisted of rotifers (Brachionus plicatillis) in the first stage and Artemia sp. in the last stages. Uca (Minuca) burgersi have five or six zoeal stages and a megalopa one. All larval stages were drawn and described in detail. Tables where the morphological characteristic of each stage of the studied specie was described are also included.... |

Marine deposits of the Neuquén Basin of west-central Argentina (southern South America) are richly fossiliferous; its Mesozoic invertebrate faunas, represented mostly by molluscs, have been extensively studied since the nineteenth century. However, Early Cretaceous decapod crustaceans are far less known, although part of the systematic framework has been published (Aguirre-Urreta, 1989). The aim of the present note is to provide updated information based on ongoing research into the systematics and taphonomy of this crustacean group in the Neuquén Basin. |

Recently discovered crabs from the Middle to Upper Eocene of northern Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles, include well-preserved carapaces of Montezumella rutteni Van Straelen, originally described from an incomplete holotype. The more comprehensive description of this species provided herein includes documentation of the first attributable left cheliped of Montezumella. From the same locality, Ocalina sublevis sp. nov. considerably extends the known geographic range of this genus. Both of these Tethyan decapod genera apparently migrated west from the Mediterranean region during the Eocene. Despite these new determinations, decapod crustaceans remain poorly known from the Eocene of the Antillean islands. Additionally, Callianassa pustulosa Withers from the... |

Gastropod shells occupied by hermit crabs are an important attachment substrate for epifauna, and these shells are often damaged. The present study aimed to characterize the epibionts and extent of damage for gastropod shells occupied by the hermit crab Loxopagurus loxochelis (Moreira, 1901). Samples were collected monthly over a period of one year (from July 2002 through June 2003), in the Caraguatatuba and Ubatuba regions, on the northern coast of São Paulo, Brazil. The sampling was performed using a fishing boat equipped with double-rig nets. The shells were identified and weighed. Loxopagurus loxochelis occupied 14 gastropod shell species in Caraguatatuba and five in Ubatuba. In the two areas, approximately 55% of these gastropod shells bore epibionts,... |

The project PRS-GEDIP was carried out in the Rio Grande do Sul coast, with some few stations off Maldonado (Uruguay), by means of a convention between Instituto Oceanográfico USP (IOUSP) and the Grupo Executivo do Desenvolvimento da Indústria da Pesca (GEDIP) of Rio Grande do Sul. The purpose of this project was the acquisition of data in order to have a better biotic and abiotic characterization of the southern Brazilian coast. Among the Galatheidae, about 1200 specimens of the genus Munida Leach, 1820 were collected, including five species as follows: Munida flinti Benedict, 1902; M. forceps A. Milne Edwards, 1880; M. iris A. Milne Edwards, 1880; M. irrasa A. Milne Edwards. 1880 and M. longipes A. Milne Edwards, 1880. The description, material examined,... |

The crustaceans from the marine Berivotra Formation, dated as late Cretaceous, from 50 km south of Mahajanga, Madagascar contains macrurans, brachyurans and thalassinideans. Two brachyuran families, Raninidae and Dynomenidae, were previously identified with the genera Notopocorystes, Caloxanthus, Titanocarcinus, Xanthosia, and Dromiopsis. Fragmentary material now also allows the recognition of Dromioidea, Calappoidea and Xanthoidea. |

A new genus of parthenopid crab, Garthambrus gen. nov., characterised by a broad carapace with strongly raised branchial and gastric regions, distinctive rostrum, sub-cylindrical ambulatory meri and a long distal segment of the second male pleopod, is established for six deep water species from various parts of the Pacific. A new species, Garthambrus posidon spec, nov., is also described from depths of between 480 to 600 m off the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. It differs from its closest congener, G. poupini (Garth, 1993), in having a proportionately broader carapace, less granulated carapace and chelipedal surfaces, and in the form of the carapace regions. |
